Temecula Recap

A night of records! After a successful league race this week the Freshman, Sophomore and JV teams laced up their shoes for another race under the lights at the Temecula Twilight Invitational at Galway Downs on Saturday night. On this fast grass and dirt looped course the Mustangs outdid themselves with an overwhelming amount of PRs and strong finishes! Congrats to our JV Girls team who finished first overall, led by Kailey Cook (19:32) and Roxanne Fournier (19:41). Teammates challenged each other to push their limits with neck & neck finishes from JV girls Kaylee Worrell (19:58.2) and Victoria Campbell (19:58.4).  The Freshman Boys were paced by Kayden Goto (18:31.3) and Tyler Yang (18:31.8). Mark Jorgenson (19:10) led our Sophomore Boy’s race and Lucy Carter led the Sophomore Girls racing the clock for an impressive finish at 19:59. Sophomore Stephen Sundvold took the lead for our JV Boys finishing at 17:26, followed by impressive races from Jacob Shatzman (18:05) and Zack Moody (18:11). Freshman Sydney Rome (20:37) led the Freshman Girls with an amazing finish herself. Overall, the night was one to remember for the Frosh/Soph and JV runners making the Varsity team, who came to cheer them on, wish they had a chance at this fun and fast course! Congratulations Mustangs! 

League Preview Recap

The Century Conference Preview was the race to make moves. The YL Mustangs served PRs and more as they raced against teams in their North Hills league as well as the Crestview League on Wednesday afternoon at Yorba Regional Park. With first-place finishes from the Frosh/Soph Girls, JV Girls, JV Boys, Varsity Girls, and Varsity Boys, YLXC proved their potential in the North Hills League. Starting off the afternoon, Kailey Cook led the Girls JV team who finished first in League and 2nd overall with notable PR’s from Alexis Hermann and Ashley Arrieta. Our Frosh/Soph Girls and Boys teams led by Tyler Yang and Lucy Carter thrived on the course earning 14 PRs in total and proving that they grow stronger with each race. Girls Varsity raced smart, led by Siena Palicke who finished 2nd overall. Emma Karcher ran an outstanding PR and steadily climbed her way to the top of the race finishing as our fourth varsity runner. Leading the varsity boys team, Neil Bondoc raced a suspenseful 15:10 and finished 4th overall, making him the first Yorba Linda boy to ever finish in the Top 5 at League! The rest of his teammates continued to show off with Vijay Arora and Noah Camacho working together to run in the low 16:00’s and Mason French and Brandon Nowland challenging each other to reach new records as well. With the success they have had in this first preview meet for the league, the runners are on track to accomplish their goals when they race these teams again.

Woodbridge Invitational Recap

Under the lights, full of adrenaline, and up against competitive teams across California, the Woodbridge Invitational is the perfect opportunity to run a fast time and the Yorba Linda Mustangs shined Saturday evening. Notable PRs from our freshman include Carissa Teran (19:44) and Lucas Dias (20:50) in their respective races. The Varsity (B-team) earned an 8th place finish lead by Maya Krishnan and was supported by several PRs from Roxane Fournier (19:55), Victoria Campbell (20:15), Katie Valdez (20:38), and Lucy Carter (20:57). A breakthrough race from Junior Eli Lemos, who ran a 34 second PR of 17:32. Neil Bondoc (15:49) finished in the top 25 for Varsity boys followed by stellar PRs from Brandon Nowland (17:11), David Van Dyke (17:39), and Lucas Demogines (17:51). The girl’s team had a special chance to race against the fastest teams in the Sweepstakes race. Leading the girls, Siena Palicke (17:01 PR) raced smart finishing in the top 25 and on her way to breaking 17:00. She was followed by Hayley Killion who broke 19:00 with a PR of 18:54. Overall, milestone times were broken on Saturday night making the Woodbridge course one they will always remember.

Great Cow Run Recap

After training through the heat of the summer, the Yorba Linda cross country team started the season off strong last Saturday at the 13th annual Great Cow Run in Cerritos. Our Freshman boys kicked off the morning running their very first high school cross country race with Kayden Goto (19:43) and Tyler Yang (19:45) working together throughout the race to lead their team to a 3rd place finish. The Freshman girls were led by Carissa Teran running a fearless time of 20:22 for her first high school race. Junior Siena Palicke raced the course biker as she won the Varsity girls race with a PR of 17:20, followed by Senior Hayley Killion, who ran a PR of 19:00 flat, landing the Varsity girls team a first-place finish in their division. The Junior Varsity girls continued the streak with Senior Kailey Cook, leading the Yorba Linda girls with a time of 21:53 which was followed shortly by Sydney Bremer (22:45) earning the JV girls team a first-place finish in their division. Senior Neil Bondoc shattered the sixteen-minute mark leading the Varsity boys with a PR of 15:48 followed by Junior Vijay Arora who PR’d as well with a 16:22. Sophomore David Van Dyke ran his first cross country race as a varsity team member with a strong 17:44. Lucy Carter (PR 21:42) and Lexi Broadwater (PR 21:53) worked together to lead their sophomore girls to a 3rd place finish in their division. Sophomore Stephen Sundvold proves to be a newcomer to look out for this season running his first cross country race in 18:29. Running for Junior Varsity boys, Brandon Vega (19:21) and Senior, Calvin Hu (19:37), tackled the race together starting their season off strong. Embracing the heat with a strong first race behind them, the Yorba Linda Mustangs are prepared for a promising season ahead!
